We’re going green this year! We’re excited to offer all event details right at your fingertips through our event app. The app provides essential information to help you plan your day, navigate the event, and make the most of every moment. Once your student registers, we’ll send them an email with instructions on how to access the event app. This will allow them to access the schedule, plan their day in advance, and explore everything the event has to offer before they arrive on campus!

Help Your Student Make the Most of Their Day

  1. Encourage them to pre-download the event mobile app for easy access to all event details ahead of the event.

  2. Have them review the available tracks and build their own personalized schedule.

  3. Remind them to check in via your mobile phone as soon as they arrive on campus on Saturday, April 12th.

  4. Make sure they pick up their event wristband to get started.

  5. Suggest they attend their favorite information sessions to learn more. Parents and family members are welcome to attend other sessions while their students are in different rooms.

  6. Encourage them to visit the various resource centers to explore helpful services.

  7. Stop by Sun God Lawn to meet our colleges and join exciting activities with Athletics and Recreation!

  8. Visit the department open houses to meet staff and learn about available opportunities.

  9. Most importantly, encourage them to enjoy the fun activity areas, ask questions, and engage with others.

  10. This is their chance to determine if UC San Diego is the right fit for them!

How does one register for this event?

This event is by invitation only and can be accessed solely through your student’s UC San Diego portal

Is this event only available in person?

Yes, this is an in-person event on our campus, with no hybrid or virtual options available. We encourage you to join us on-site to make the most of the activities, tours, and networking opportunities.

Can I bring my pets?

Unfortunately, pets are not allowed at the event, with the exception of service animals. Service animals must be wearing their official service jackets to be allowed on campus.

Do I need to stay with my student, or does the student need to stay for the entire day?

You’re welcome to accompany your student! There will be a variety of events and resources specifically dedicated to parents and family members, so feel free to stay and enjoy the experience. There’s no need to simply drop them off. Both you and your student are encouraged to attend info sessions and activities that are most relevant to you, depending on your available time. However, staying for the full day will ensure you don’t miss any valuable opportunities or information.

How should your student prepare for the event?

We recommend downloading our UC San Diego Guides App in advance and reviewing the schedule to plan their day. The app allows them to create a personalized itinerary with the sessions and activities they want to attend. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring essentials such as a notebook, pen, refillable water bottle, and money to purchase food and drinks, ensuring they can fully enjoy the experience.

What information will your student gain from attending an information session?

Information sessions are 30-minute presentations that provide valuable insights into academic programs and student services, helping your student gain a clear understanding of what’s offered. In the mobile app, you can view the session descriptions to ensure they are relevant. Please note that sessions are organized by tracks, with some specifically tailored for first-year students, transfer students, or both. Be sure to refer to the Guidebook event app to identify the tracks that apply to your student.

What can your student expect to learn at the resource fair?

At the resource fair, students will have the opportunity to connect with representatives from various campus organizations, student services, and departments to explore the support and opportunities available to them. Students can gather valuable information such as contact details, brochures, and occasionally some fun swag!

What can your student expect from visiting a department’s open house?

Department open houses offer students the chance to explore the school’s facilities, meet faculty and staff, and experience the environment firsthand. It’s a great opportunity to learn about the various offerings and resources available to your student. For information on times and locations of the open houses, please download the event mobile app for more details.

How will I know if I'm in the right location on campus?

We will have a variety of signs and wayfinding markers throughout the campus, including A-frame signs and staff on hand to assist you. For more detailed walking directions and guidance, we recommend downloading our mobile app. Additionally, be sure to explore the Campus Maps section, particularly the Building Guidance area, for helpful information.

Is food and beverages available at this event?

We will not be providing complimentary food and beverages. However, our campus dining areas will be open, giving you the chance to explore various restaurants around campus. Please download our event mobile app to access a direct link to a list of food options available in the Food and Beverage section under the Visitor Info.

Is parking free?

Yes, parking will be complimentary for all attendees. Detailed instructions can be found in our Guidebook event app on the home page and under the Visitor Info section.

What are some local accommodations to consider?

There are several hotels near the campus, including Sheraton La JollaEstancia La Jolla Hotel & SpaHyatt Regency La Jolla, and the San Diego Marriott La Jolla. We recommend booking early to secure your stay.
